We hope these frequently asked questions steer you in the right direction! If not feel free to contact us by e-mail or call Tyler & Erin at 905-999-3243
Each week, or every other week, we put together your share from our gardens for you to pick up at one of our pick up points that you choose when you sign up for our CSA. Our 2018 pick points will be at the Cobourg Farmers market Saturdays from 8am-1pm and others TBA (waiting for responses from Durham Region farmers markets).
What does it cost?
When paying up front for the year you will receive on average %15 more value than you would if you were to buy from vendors at the farmers market or the organic section at the grocery store!
For bi-weekly half share you pay $25 every other week, and for bi-weekly full share you pay $35 every other week for a total of 10 weeks during the growing season. For weekly half shares you pay $25 every week, and for weekly full shares you pay $32.50 every week for a total of 20 weeks during the growing season, our best value!
When you sign up for the CSA you pay a $150 deposit and the remainder must be paid by May 1st via cash, cheque, credit card or interac e-transfer. Pay via attached LINK.
Do you deliver?
We do not deliver to personal a residence unless otherwise requested, for now, as it is uneconomical for our small scale farm. If you are unable to pick up our produce from our locations then give us a shout and there might be a way for us to accommodate you.
When does the CSA take place?
We operate our program from the second week in June to the last week of October.
What happens if can’t come pick up our share or will be out of town he week of a pick up?
Try to have a friend, family member, neighbour, co-worker etc pick it up for you or for themselves. If you can’t find anyone who wants a crate full of veggies than please give us 24hr notice so we don’t harvest for you.
*If you need to switch your pick-up day on occasion we will gladly harvest your CSA share any day that we have another pick-up option. Let us know 24hrs before your scheduled CSA pick-up day or 24 hours before the day that you’d like to pick up, whichever comes first. As a last resort, if you live in the area and coming to our farm is realistic than we can accept that as a last option.
How Does the Bi-weekly Share work?
With the Bi-weekly Share you are investing in exactly half the produce of the weekly share. Bi-Weekly share Members pick up their produce every other week throughout the course of the 20 week CSA season. Members will pick up their share on weeks 1,3,5,7, etc… or 2,4,6,8, etc… depending on your assigned CSA start date (the farmers assign the start date, you choose your pick up ‘day’). Note: Our expectation is that each Bi-Weekly share will contain enough veggies to meet the needs of an individual or small household for one week per pick up.
If I am a Bi-weekly member can I switch pick up ‘weeks’ during the season?
The reason we can’t accommodate Bi-Weekly members requests to switch weeks during the season is that it ultimately creates too much waste on the farm. We successionally plant our veggies which allows us to give our members the broadest array of fresh produce on a regular basis. If one of our members switches weeks the produce we have planted for them will not be harvested at peak freshness and may spoil in the field; on the week that the member is now going to collect their veggies we will have a shortage. For Foragers Farms to avoid as much waste as possible and give our members the greatest variety of produce that are harvested at their peak we plant with you in mind well ahead of time.
Is my deposit refundable?
The simple answer is no. Your deposit is not refundable or transferable. The CSA deposit reserves your spot in the CSA and will be put towards the total cost of your share. You are welcome to give your share to a family member or friend; please notify us whom his would be in advance.
If I choose not to pay online, where do I mail my cheque?
Send your cheque for the allotted amount to Foragers Farms 3517 Rowe Rd Cobourg, ON. All cheques should be made out to Foragers Farms. Please send a cheque as cash can disappear too easily.
What happens if I do not pay on time?
A late payment will result in a fee of $25 or a forfeit of the CSA share and deposit. The nature of a CSA program is for the members to invest in the farm as early in the season as possible. The farm cannot function as it should if payments are made late. As we are a small farm and business we depend on the commitments of our members and community 100% of the way.
Will the shares be limited?
Yes, we will be limiting our CSA so act fast as we expect it to fill up fast!
Can I split a share with another household/family?
We the farmers strongly discourage splitting shares between more than one household as it has a negative financial impact on the farm. We encourage members to instead purchase a Bi-Weekly Share as it covers the additional overhead costs associated with having to manage two households instead of a single weekly household to pick up the same amount of produce.
If members do decide to split a share – in order to make it sustainable for the farmers and reduce overhead costs – members will agree to send one form of payment per share, limit one household per event, one email/household per share etc…
What kinds of vegetables and fruits do you grow?
Over 35 different kind of vegetables and fruits.
As a member, when can I visit the farm?
Every Saturday during the growing season Tony and Linda from Headwaters Community Farm (where we are located) have a Feet on Farm event to allow people to come to the farm and see where their food comes from. Enjoy fresh bagels, pizza, check out our on-farm beekeeper “Randee’s Bees”, visit the animals (goats, chickens, horses, ducks, heritage cattle) and have a walk on the trails.
