Nestled in the heart of Headwaters Farm is Foragers Farms, a 1-acre intensive market garden that uses organic and regenerative farming practices. Crop rotations, lots of organic matter and cover crops ensure soil fertility and healthy fruits, veggies and herbs. We also forage for edible and medicinal plants in order to offer wild edibles and to create products from nature that reconnect people with the plants and with their ancestry.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. This system of growing and distributing organic produce was established 25 years ago and has truly restored the connection between people and where their food comes from. CSA systems provide farmers with an equitable return for their skill, knowledge and labour; and establishes a strong foundation for sustainable agriculture all the while contributing to a healthier ecology.
When you decide to purchase a CSA you are entitled to a share of the produce that is coming off the gardens weekly or bi-weekly. This gives you the opportunity to eat super fresh food with amazing flavour and nutritional benefits. You will be introduced to some new veggies with each box, along with a recipe to help inspire your next dish. We keep you involved with what’s happening on the farm, such as garden tours, pop up dinners featuring local chefs, Feet on Farm Saturdays, along with Headwaters Farm and Education Centre events and homesteading workshops. As an added feature to our CSA bins you can choose wild foraged products from our apothecary such as wild crafted dried herbs for loose leaf teas or DIY projects, essential oils, tinctures, tasty treats and infused oils. Each week you can buy these extras from our online store at wholesale and expect to receive them in your next box.
Your commitment to support small scale local organic farms is essential for sustainable farming, preserving bio diversity by taking pressure off of large scale mono cropping demands causing the necessity for GMO solutions and the like. You will also become part of a health-minded community and inspire future generations.
